Dear Brother Knight:
On behalf of the Supreme Officers, I send you and your loved ones prayerful greetings on this great feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, of the unborn, and of the Order.
This year’s feast day is especially significant since it begins a 9-year period of preparation until we mark the 500th anniversary of the appearances of the Virgin of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego, December 9-12, 2031. The Order’s dedication to Our Lady of Guadalupe has been a proud hallmark of the Knights of Columbus for more than two decades, and in the coming 9-year novena leading to the 500th anniversary, we will embark on new initiatives to deepen our own devotion for Our Lady and to share her message of love with the whole world.
To begin these preparations, and in concert with the National Eucharistic Revival underway in the United States, the Supreme Council has produced a short 10-minute video about Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Eucharist which I invite you to view and share with others.
The words of Pope Francis, in his homily at today’s celebration in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, reflect the central message of Our Lady of Guadalupe and its relationship to the Eucharist: “the coming of the Son in human flesh is the supreme expression of God’s divine method in favor of salvation. God, who so loved the world, sent us his Son, ‘born of a woman,’ so that ‘everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life (Jn 3:16).’”
May Our Lady of Guadalupe intercede for you, for your loved ones, and for our Order.
Happy feast day! Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!
Fraternally,
Patrick E. Kelly
Supreme Knight
